Ever have that moment? (aka Farewell 2007, management has decided not to renew your contract)

December 31, 2007 at 11:32 am (Life)

Our lives are a series of moments.

Realisations, decisions, choices, paths, combinations, permutations, actions.

We live our lives in moments of transition… never completely one thing or another. Read the rest of this entry »

Blasts from the past.

December 30, 2007 at 11:07 am (Friends, Life, Plans & Hopes, Relationships)

This is a funny time of the year for a lot of people I know.

Most of my friends, family and acquaintances live VERY busy lives. Nothing unusual there, really.

So, to have finally caught up with people that I spent some of the best years of my life with, having not seen them for around 5 years… well, as you can imagine, was a bit of a mixed bag. Read the rest of this entry »

When the (f)it hits the (sh)an

December 22, 2007 at 8:39 pm (Life)

It seems to me that there are 2 main types of people in this world.

Those who respond well to pressure and adversity.

And those who buckle like a belt at even the hint of things not going to plan.

And it’s gotten me thinking about how we can adapt, as people, to various challenges and roadblocks that life puts in our way, and more importantly, how we deal with one another when we face those situations as a group. Read the rest of this entry »

Milestones. (T minus 20 days)

December 18, 2007 at 10:59 pm (Goals, Life, Plans & Hopes, Sports, Travel, Work) (, , , , , , , , , )

Today I hit my first major milestone in my fitness training.

1km, solid run, no breaks, no walking, no slowing down, no stopping.

1km… flat out at an average just above 13kph… good for a final time on the treadmill of 4:20.

Still not good enough for FIFA… but, the first solid 1km is an achievement all the same. Read the rest of this entry »

Why do I blog? (aka The power of words)

December 11, 2007 at 10:34 pm (Adages, aphorisms and other weak-assed wisdom, Blogroll, Friends, Life, Ridiculous)

A friend of mine who reads this blog recently asked me two simple questions…

Why do you blog? Why are your posts so long?

In looking at my posts, the usual length is anywhere between 1500 and 1800 words. Consider for a moment that short story competitions typically request submissions to be between 4000 and 6000 words, that makes one post approximately a third of a short story in size.

So, why do I write so much when I have something to say? Read the rest of this entry »

Does the effort outweigh the reward? (T minus 34 days)

December 5, 2007 at 8:13 pm (Friends, Goals, Life, Plans & Hopes, Politics, Relationships, Ridiculous, Sports, Work)

As I drove across the city to go to the gym this morning, I found myself thinking about the efforts I’ve put into improving my fitness, endurance, agility and stamina this year.

Mind you… it was 6:45 am, so the thoughts were more along the lines of “I must be crazy, hauling my ass out of bed so early”.

But it got me to thinking about the various things I’ve seen people pour massive effort, time and energy into… that never yield results, or worse, results completely contrary to those desired. Read the rest of this entry »

Why are these crazy people drawn to me?

December 3, 2007 at 7:03 pm (Friends, Life, Ridiculous, Sports)

Honestly… why is it that every freaky nutjob on the planet has to find me to offload, huh??

The Barren Wastelands of Australian TV

December 1, 2007 at 11:23 pm (Current Events, Entertainment, News, Ridiculous)

Tonight saw the last episode of “The Sideshow”.

This represents the latest in a long line of dumb ass, short sighted, ridiculous, ‘heads entrenched in their own colons’ decisions from ABC executives.

Paul McDermott, of Doug Anthony All Stars and Good News Week fame, is without a doubt one of the most sardonic, caustic and witty comedians that Australia has produced and to see him relegated to ‘cancellation’ is a poor measure, to say the least.

So, why did the ABC cancel a show that was so entertaining to so many people? Read the rest of this entry »
